Retinol (Vitamin A)

What is Retinol (Vitamin A)?

Retinol is one of the animal forms of vitamin A and is convertible to other forms of vitamin A. When converted to the retinal (retinaldehyde) form, vitamin A is essential for vision, and when converted to retinoic acid, is essential for skin health, teeth remineralization and bone growth. Although the vitamin A was not identified until the 20th century, written observations of conditions created by deficiency of this nutrient appeared much earlier in history. Written accounts identified the existence of this unique nutrient and manifestations of its deficiency as early as the 18th century. This vitamin plays an essential role in vision, particularly night vision, normal bone and tooth development, reproduction, and the health of skin and mucous membranes (the mucus-secreting layer that lines body regions such as the respiratory tract). Hylunia does not use retinol in Advanced Triple Defense Facial Day Lotion due to concerns that retinol is not safe for pregnant mothers.

Retinol (Vitamin A)'s Benefits for Skin

Vitamin A has proven anti-aging results in the skin correcting wrinkles and improving elasticity. It works by repairing and renewing skin cells. Retinol also improves discoloration and wrinkles from sun damage. Skin care products containing retinol help stimulate cell regeneration and build collagen to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. Additionally, they help minimize the appearance of pore size, while correcting blemishes and blotchiness often associated with problematic skin.
