The 1-2-3’s of proper skincare

Most of us pay careful attention to the skincare products we use. However we often don’t realize the importance of applying them in the correct order. All skincare products deliver the best results when applied in the proper order. To get the most of your skincare products we recommend this simple routine.

1. Facial Cleanser

Facial cleanser should always be the first step in your skincare routine every morning and night. Cleansers remove impurities from the skin such as makeup, dirt and other debris.

People with dry or mature skin should use a gentle cleanser that won’t strip the skin of the natural oils it needs. Try Hylunia Facial Cleansing Lotion, this gentle cleanser keeps skin hydrated while removing dirt and impurities.

People with normal, oily, or combination skin should use a cleanser that deep cleans while washing away excess oil and dirt from the skin. Try Hylunia Facial Gel, recommended for all skin types. This cleanser leaves skin feeling soft, clean, and healthy.

People with acne, whiteheads, blackheads, excess oil, or other blemishes should use a cleanser made for acne-prone skin types. Try Hylunia Salicylic Facial Cleansing Gel. This alpha and beta-hydroxy acids in the cleanser penetrate deep into the pores without causing skin irritation.

2. Toner

After cleansing, toner should be applied to help shrink pores and to soothe the skin. Toner helps skin appear refreshed, younger, and glowing. Make sure to use an alcohol-free toner. Toners with alcohol can strip skin, leaving it feeling dry or irritated.

3. Serum

The next step is applying serum. Serums sink deep into the skin’s layers where they are the most effective. Serums are formulated with higher concentrations of result giving ingredients than moisturizers contain. They are excellent for reducing fine lines, sun damaged skin, brightening, combating acne, and soothing redness. Anti-aging Vitamin C serums, such as Hylunia’s Beyond Complex C, can visibly reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and is especially effective at reducing sun-damage to skin.

4. Eye cream

Eye cream should be applied before moisturizers. Moisturizers are made with ingredients that are not meant to be applied around the eyes. Applying moisturizer before eye cream also prevents the eye cream ingredients to absorb and work efficiently. Not only are cucumbers packed full of water; they also contain an ingredient called silica. Silica is an ingredient that boosts elasticity and moisture—two essential ingredients to healthy, glowing skin! Nuts are full of healthy fats, which doctors believe can help restore elasticity to your skin. Try sprinkling some almonds on a salad or treat yourself with them as a healthy snack.

5. Moisturizer

Applying moisturizer as the next step will help seal in the serum already applied, allowing them both to work effectively. There are many types of moisturizers available, each made for different skin types and concerns. Moisturizer should be applied day and night. Most moisturizers can be used both day and night. Some day moisturizers contain SPF and most night moisturizers are more rich and thick, so only wear them at the appropriate time of day.

6. Sunscreen

Sunscreen should be the last step in your skincare routine. It should be applied 20 minutes prior to sun exposure. Eye cream should be applied before moisturizers. Moisturizers are made with ingredients that are not meant to be applied around the eyes. Applying moisturizer before eye cream also prevents the eye cream ingredients to absorb and work efficiently.
