Fight dry skin from the inside out!

The saying “you are what you eat” is especially important when it comes to your skin. When you have dry skin, you may be tempted to lather on creams and lotions for instant relief. While topical treatments are essential in managing dry skin, treating skin with a diet rich in oils can also help.

Here are some oils that skin just LOVES (and we do, too!)…

Avocado oil

Avocado is rich in Vitamin A and antioxidants. Avocado oil is easily absorbed, allowing its natural nutrients to get to where they’re needed the most and making it an excellent natural skin softener.

Flaxseed oil

Flaxseed oil helps reduce the appearance of dry rough skin. It’s also known to help skin conditions including acne, psoriasis, rosacea and eczema. It can be taken it its raw form or in a capsule.

Olive oil

Olive oil can moisturize skin, offering healthy amounts of Vitamins A and E. If you have extremely dry rough skin try adding one or two tablespoons of olive oil to your daily diet. You can begin to incorporate olive oil by taking it alone, using it as a salad dressing, and cooking with it instead of butter, margarine or vegetable oil.

Oils from nuts and seeds

Nuts and seeds contain fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, monounsaturated fats, and a ton of antioxidants. They moisturize skin, promote skin elasticity, help regenerate skin cells, and protect against environmental factors and free radicals.

Try incorporating walnuts, pistachios, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds and hazelnuts as a healthy snack in moderation.

These are all healthy fats that will help combat dry skin by strengthening skin cells. Begin to incorporate these foods into your daily diet to see your dry skin disappear. Keep in mind that more isn’t necessarily better. Follow the guidelines offered in this post, and you’ll be on your way to more hydrated, healthier looking skin.
