Best treatments for clogged pores

Clogged pores can be stubborn and occur anywhere on your body, especially your face. The good news is there are many treatment options for eliminating clogged pores.

Here are some tips to figure out what your pore causing triggers may be and how to help prevent and get rid of your clogged pores once and for all.

Look at the products you’re using

The first step to getting rid of clogged pores is to take a close look at the products you’re using topically on your skin. Take a close look at anything from moisturizers, foundations, cleansers, sunscreens, hair gels and sprays. Anything that touches your skin can be to blame. It’s a good idea to keep record of what you think may be to blame and to avoid it in the future.

Here’s a list of some of common skin care ingredients that can trigger clogged pores:

  • Mineral oil
  • Lanolin
  • Bismuth Oxychloride
  • 1, 2 Octanediol
  • Ceteareth-20, Cetheth-20 Phosphate
  • Cocamide MEA, Cocoaprylate/Caprate, Cocomide DEA
  • Glycerol Caprylate
  • Isopropyl Myristate
  • Laureth-3
  • Olefin Sulfornate, Organic Sulfonate
  • Sodium Cocoate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinat, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Stearate

Exfoliate

Exfoliating is great for helping to unclog pores and for skin renewal. Exfoliating removes the dirt and oil that contribute to clogged pores. There are two types of exfoliants: chemical and physical.

Physical exfoliants actually scrape dead skin cells, sebum and other debris from the skin surface. Physical exfoliants for the face are finer than those for the body, so never use a body exfoliant on your face. Try Hylunia Grape Seed Exfoliating Scrub to remove dead skin cells. Avoid facial exfoliant scrubs containing Apricot or Walnut; they are extremely harsh and damaging to delicate facial skin.

Chemical exfoliants dissolve debris from the skin surface. The most common types of chemical exfoliants are AHA’s, BHA’s and fruit enzymes. Chemical exfoliants tend to be more preferable as there is something for every skin type and their strength can be altered in the amount or concentration used. These exfoliants do a beautiful job at revealing the healthy glowing skin stuck underneath.

Extractions

When done properly, extractions can help unclog pores by gently compressing the area. It’s best to see a professional for extractions. When not done properly extractions can lead to infection, scarring, and broken capillaries.
