HYLUNIA’S BIRTH AND ITS 30-YEAR PIONEERING LEGACY
Hylunia Skin Care was founded in 1988 and launched by Dr. Lingam, a rocket scientist who hailed from a family of illustrious Ayurveda doctors. He felt compelled to create skincare products in 1987 when his infant daughter reacted adversely to a popular baby care cream. To his surprise, he was unable to find a single non-reactive, gentle baby cream on the market at the time.
HYLUNIA'S PIONEERING RESEARCH TEAM
Dr. Lingam partnered with Dr. Brian Jegasothy, former Chairman, Department of Dermatology, and the University of Pittsburgh, to put together a scientific research project team committed to delivering the best product. The founding team was comprised of scientists, dermatologists, physicians, researchers, and biochemists with more than 200 years of combined experience.
The research team discovered that most skincare products on the market contained harmful ingredients such as preservatives, petroleum, artificial fragrances and dyes, and chemicals that cause inflammation and endocrine disruption. They also found harmful preservatives such as parabens, which were either animal-derived or chemical and used to increase the shelf life of the products. Preservatives are necessary because the products use animal-derived ingredients that perish very quickly. Also, the products spend months or even years on shelves before they reach a consumer. These parabens cause skin irritation, disrupt hormones in the body, cause damage to reproductive organs, reduce fertility, and increase the risk of cancer.
INFLAMMATION AND PREMATURE AGING
Dr. Jegasothy’s scientific team discovered after intense research for over six years, the relationship between continuous inflammation, disease, and premature aging. They found that at the biological level, pre-mature aging results from molecular and cellular damage over time. This damage causes inflammation. When this inflammation becomes chronic, it damages cells and tissues leading to serious health conditions. Inflammation, apart from speeding up the aging process, increased the risk factors for morbidity and mortality. It was found that inflammation causes morbid diseases like cancer, interferes with endocrine systems, and other developmental disorders.
