There’s so much misinformation about what it takes to have healthy skin, it’s hard to know what to believe.
At Hylunia, we cut to the chase—and only give you facts. Based on the research we’ve done, here are the five most common myths about aging and your skin.
MYTH #1
DRY SKIN CAUSES WRINKLES
Wrinkles happen when there is a breakdown of collagen in the skin. This has nothing to do with the amount of oil or moisture your skin produces. Dry skin can make existing wrinkles more visible, so to help smooth out that appearance, try using one of our remedy oils. Our particular favorite is Mature Skin Facial Remedy Oil.
MYTH #2
YOU DON’T NEED SUNSCREEN ON A CLOUDY DAY
The rays that damage skin are UVA and UVB. While they might not burn you on a cloudy day, they are still penetrating your skin and causing damage. Use a sunscreen everyday of the year.
MYTH #3
FACIAL SCRUBS REMOVE WRINKLES
Exfoliators and scrubs help remove dead cells from the skin’s surface. Exfoliating is an essential part of a skincare routine, but topical products do not penetrate the deep layers of the dermis where wrinkles form. They do; create a smoother skin surface that’s better prepared to absorb helpful ingredients in other skincare products. Try this one.
MYTH #4
SKIN AGING IS CAUSED BY GENETICS
Free radicals are believed to contribute to wrinkles, dryness, loss of skin elasticity and even possibly skin cancer. Free radicals come from the environment (sun, pollution and even stress!). You can help prevent exposure by using sunscreen daily, and applying a product with Vitamin C. We love this one.
MYTH #5
YOU CAN SHRINK YOUR PORES
Your pores increase in size when they fill up with oil, therefore they decrease when oil is removed. But neither result is permanent. You can effectively minimize the appearance of pores, by using an oil-controlling cleanser and moisturizer during the days your pore look enlarged.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Stick to what you know, and always remember to be aware of what your skin is telling you.
